ZHANG Zhekai: Born in 1993 in Zhejiang, he holds a master’s degree in Product Design from the Royal College of Art in the UK. His research focuses primarily on finding new practical pathways that combine craftsmanship development with industrial production.

Studio KAE is a product design studio focused on craft innovation and interdisciplinary research. Its works often deviate from human-centered design, bringing form aesthetics and functional attributes back to the essence of the material itself. Through exploring different materials and cultural contexts, Studio KAE seeks to find new semantics for objects within the rational deconstruction and emotional reconstruction.

LAVA

Material:Glass, Aluminium

Size:φ10* H25cm

The design of the LAVA table lamp is inspired by volcanic geological features, with handcrafted elements highlighting the perfect fusion of craftsmanship and natural forces. The lampshade is created using the lost foam casting technique, where high-temperature aluminium melts the EPS foam mould, simulating the cooling and forming process of volcanic lava. The unique shape and texture of the lampshade are a direct result of this special technique.

The bulb inside the lampshade is made of hand-blown glass, with irregular patterns that resemble rolling volcanic lava when illuminated, injecting vitality into the static lamp. The light and shadow effects when the lamp is turned on echo the flow characteristics of lava, enhancing the visual impact and natural associations of the piece.
