映 Shine is a tableware collection that includes a plate, a bowl, and a vase. The concept behind Shine is to illustrate the unique natural qualities of silk by taking a traditional craft and applying it in an unconventional but effective way. Silk, in its natural condition, contains sericin (which acts like glue) that enables the forms to solidify without the addition of another material or supporting framework. At the same time, the final surface expresses the unique shine of silk. As an additional characteristic, the plate can be folded and rolled in one direction due to the consistency of silk fibers. All pieces are handcrafted by following the traditional method of harvesting silk. They are basically formed by one single silk thread, which is obtained directly from silk cocoons. Shine is a tribute to the silkworms who build their solid transformation cases in a similar manner.
