HONG Zhangliang

Zhangliang Hong is a ceramics artist who works with the techniques called Nerikomi.During 10 years of travelling and studies in The UK, Japan, and China, Zhangliangwas continuously trying to build an original perspective in art and craft. The aim of his work is to explore the possibilities and diversity of the clay and also to observe the self-consciousness in the final outcome. The spiritual form and details in his ceramicssculpture symbolise the will of nature and human beings. His artwork displays aninsight into how things unify and separate, how lives sprout and wither away. Quote to the artist himself: ”In this miscellaneous world we could not know more about the truth, but only to explore the beauty with our universal and absolute sensoryexperience .”

A sigh of earth

Material:Ceramics

Size:L120*W70*H40cm,L40*W40*H30cm

In the creation of ceramics, clay, as one of the oldest materials, always seems to convey some kind of ancient message and reverie. Looking at the clay in front of me, my thoughts take me back to the empty state before the germination of consciousness. I imagined the moment when the first cell in the world appeared. From a simple cellular pattern, I hear the most primitive rhythms and structures formed by division. They converged into an ocean, giving all material forms and possibilities. There is a thing floating endlessly in this chaotic world. it's a sigh of the earth.
